For those of you who agonized their way through the Texas A&M vs Arkansas game the way we did, you know that the outcome looked anything but certain. In fact, with the score being 21 to 13 in the 4th quarter and the Hogs seemingly able to maintain control of the ball for the majority of the game (Ags had only 16 plays in the first half) it was looking like a very disappointing outing for Sumlin’s young squad. But, as the coach said, they made big plays when they had to, were incredibly efficient in the short amount of time they had the rock on offense, and pulled out a thriller with one of several Allen to Kirk throws for a touchdown to win the game in overtime.

Aggies defeat RazorbacksIt was definitely hard to believe for the Arkansas squad, who lost in overtime to the Ags last year in Jerry World. And, it’s really hard to believe that our loyal customer, Marcell Liner, and follower of not just our blog but also the Fightin’ Texas A&M football team, has done it again. Last year he came the closest to predicting the final score of the Aggies vs Hogs game to win a set of Copag Poker Cards. This time, he didn’t just come closest, he nailed it by predicting the final score to be Aggies 28 – Hoggies 21. Congrats, Marcell!! Your Suited Speed Felt, Folding Poker Table Top, with carrying bag, is on its way.

Most of our followers know that around this time every year we ask our poker-loving fans to indulge us as we focus on our favorite team –the fightin’ Texas A&M football team—as they begin SEC play.

The fun begins this Saturday night at 6 P.M. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington between #14 Texas A&M and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Will it be the Aggies or the Hogs who win the Southwest Classic?

It’s not just that the Aggies are 3-0 and the Hogs are 1-2 coming into this contest that gets our blood pumping. It’s the revamped Texas A&M-John Chavis defense, led by DEs Myles Garrett and Dae Dae Hall leading the SEC with 15 sacks, the return from injury of some of our experienced linebackers, and the outstanding defensive line that’s been winning the battle in the trenches. And it’s the always explosive Aggie offense, with QB Kyle Allen and his uber-talented group of wide-receivers, including Christian Kirk, Speedy Noil, Josh Reynolds, Ricky Seals Jones and a host of others, along with a vastly improved run game that has mostly featured Tra Carson. And don’t ever forget about dual-threat Kyler Murray!

Of course, the Hogs are desperate for a win to keep their young season from going under. One huge thing they have going for them is their offensive line – the largest (in weight) O-line in both college and professional football. They would like nothing better than to maintain their record for allowing no sacks against the team with the most sacks in the conference. Not only that, but the Razorbacks are currently leading the SEC in passing yards with 916. Go figure.

So it’s time to launch our first round of “Predict the Score.” In case you’ve forgotten the rules:Deluxe Suited Speed Felt Folding Poker Table Top

Whoever comes closest to predicting the final score of the game, without going over, will win this Suited Speed Felt, Folding Poker Table Top, with carrying bag. If there’s a tie, whoever made the correct prediction first is the winner, so you should probably go ahead and do it now!

We know, now that the college football season is heading into week three, that some of our longtime followers are waiting for us to begin our notoriously biased series focused on our favorite team, the Texas A&M football team.   You’re probably expecting our well-known “predict-the-winner” contests. Maybe it’s because you’re craving one of our very cool prizes. Maybe it’s because, like us, you’re a rabid Aggie football fan. Or, maybe you’re all just poker player who like to bet on things.

Well, in case you forgot, we only play “predict-the-winner” for SEC games! In other words, we still have one more non-conference game to play –against Nevada — before the real fun begins. (Unless you consider 18 consecutive non-conference wins, the longest active streak in the nation, to be fun!) Although we loved watching the Aggies win convincingly over Arizona State and Ball State, and could not be more pumped about our revitalized “Chavis” defense as well as some of our exciting, and serious contenders for super-stardom, we know it doesn’t get real until we play our SEC opponents.

So to get you all ready for SEC football, the following are some SEC-West highlights:

The Aggies first SEC battle will be against Arkansas on Sept. 26th. The Razorbacks suffered an embarrassing loss against Toledo last week and have to face Texas Tech before playing the Aggies. Let’s just say that doesn’t look good for the Hogs.

The Tide will play Ole Miss this week and will be counting on their defense to stop the highly explosive offense from Mississippi. And Auburn, who looked nothing like they were supposed to look in their narrow win against Jacksonville State, have a scary SEC contest against LSU this week.

So to sum it up, at least for the SEC West, the Aggies will continue to impress and let guys from deep in the depth charts play a lot of minutes to get them ready for conference play. And the other teams will be figuring things out, which they better do quickly before the Ags run the table.

The Lumen Poker TableIn the mean time we’ll be working on our newly re-designed Texas Poker Store website that should be ready for re-launch by end of next week. Until then, shuffle your chips and we’ll see you at the tables.

Many of you may have already received our Newsletter and therefore you know that there are changes coming to the Texas Poker Store. As we wrote, we have been working hard behind the scenes to redesign the Texas Poker Store website, blog, Facebook, Linkedn, Pinterest and all our social sites. We wanted to give everyone, our customers, friends, fellow poker players, blog readers, and Facebook fans a “heads up” about it before we launch, which will happen within the next couple of weeks.

If you’ve followed us from the beginning, you know that this is just the third time we’ve changed the look and feel of the site. We began four years ago with a rustic-brown, woodsy background color that established the Texas-country theme of the site. It served us well for three years, but in 2014 we decided to break with the “cowboy” look, and made a sudden switch to a black background with vivid red, white and green accent colors, branded with our distinctive logo and logotype. We wanted the site to incorporate what seemed to be considered poker-friendly colors and design elements and we’ve maintained that look for the store, our blog and our social media sites for the past year.

Now, however, with the TPS brand well-established and the store experiencing such tremendous success (thanks to all of you) we have finally come up with a look that reflects our own design aesthetic. What you will see when the site is launched is a contemporary, easy-on-the-eyes site in cooling shades of aqua and teal, or as the paint chips call it in the sample books, “sea spray,” with some additional accent colors. It has all the same functionality and straight-forward navigation as ever . . . and of course, the same great products and incredible customer service that we’re known for. We hope you love it as much as we do.

Texas Poker Store New Site Design Sneak Peek

However none of that is going to stop us from our blogging, and of course, now that college football season is upon us, we will once again focus on predicting the final score of all Aggie SEC games, combining our passion for the Texas A&M football team with our love of poker, and awarding our much-coveted prizes for the fan who predicts the winner of each game by the closest score.. Stayed tuned for that!

For all you poker players of the world, remember there’s a lot of money to be made out there and we are here to help you get your share by offering all the poker supplies you need to practice and master your skills. Even if you don’t amass a fortune, you’ll have a great time at the tables.
