As most of you have discovered, many World Series of Poker Circuit events have been postponed or suspended around the world due to the coronavirus pandemic. We listed the cancellations as of March 14 in our last blog and many more have fallen by the wayside. However, there has been no decision yet on whether or not the flagship event, this summer’s 51st annual WSOP tournament will be held.

Seth Palansky, vice president of corporate communications for the WSOP, said officials would continue to monitor developments regarding the
coronavirus pandemic but were proceeding as if the big event will go on as
scheduled May 26 to July 15 at the Rio Convention Center in Las Vegas.

“We keep our heads down, keep planning in place,” he said. “… We don’t need to make a decision now.” This year’s schedule calls for 87 bracelet events. Contingency plans have been discussed that could include shortening the series, Palansky said.

“Things are changing not just daily but hourly now,” he said of the pandemic fallout. “We’ll continue to monitor everything.”Texas Poker Store
