Confessions of a Grinder
I know, I know, this is already old news, but I just had to say something about it. I am not a politically opinionated guy and I definitely do not intend this blog to turn into any political debate. However, I recently saw Sen. John McCain’s tweets on Twitter, and it surprised me in both good and bad ways. Sen. McCain (@SenJohnMcCain) tweeted – “Scandal! Caught playing iPhone game at 3+ hour Senate hearing – worst of all I lost!”. McCain has been involved in discussions with Syria for over 18 months now and in the first official three-hour hearing of the Senate committee on foreign relations, discussing the potential use of force against the Assad regime, Sen. John McCain might have been bored at some point. This is evident from his next tweet “That hearing sounds so boring though. Hope it wasn’t about anything important.” He then chose to sit at a virtual poker table and play a game of poker on his iPhone. McCain, who has been the most noticeable and opinionated voice among American politicians regarding Syria, has been involved in some ‘high stakes’ political discussions recently. However, to actually play poker during a meeting that could be a part of history is shocking and at the same time, funny. Who knows? Maybe, this will throw some light on the subject of poker legalization. I mean, the republican senator himself loves it, doesn’t he?
People have the habit of getting into serious political discussions such as senator remuneration etc. when such a trivial event unfolds. However, I have just one thing to say about this. Everyone makes mistakes, and if you are indeed a ‘closet poker star’ than go out there and declare it. After this incident, I really hope that Sen. McCain joins our small army of poker warriors fighting for its legalization!
