During the Aggies Bye Week we took some time of from football to play a little poker and to personally congratulate our latest winner of our famed “Predict the Score” contests, Mr. Paul Marvin, and delivered his prize to him.Paul Marvin

Now it’s your chance to make your predictions on the upcoming game between the Texas A&M Fighting Aggies and the Alabama Crimson Tide, and to help you out, here are some thoughts:

  1. Kyle Field and the 12th Man – When more than 102,000 fans stay in the game and pump energy into their revitalized defense, as the 12th Man has done this season especially during red zone stands, the home field advantage becomes a huge factor. Aggies love their Chavis-inspired “D” and know how to make about as much noise as any fan base in college football. Bama is never intimidated by a big stage, and they’re certainly highly motivated with their season on the line in every game, but will Coker have the composure to communicate with his o-line when it’s impossible to hear anything over the roar of the crowd? Look for the sound to be deafening, causing a mistake or two and helping the Ags maintain their unrelenting pressure. If the Aggie D is as tough and aggressive as they’ve been, and tighten up their run defense, look out.
  1. Explosive plays – The Crimson Tide is a great football team, but they do better against more conventional offenses. The Aggies will dial up the unconventional and run their usual high-powered attack, forcing the Tide to do more adjusting on defense, including rushing the passer. That means we might see more of the Tide’s pass rushers. With the Ags killing it on play-action, including passes to Kirk, Reynolds and who knows how many others, and the crowd noise making it difficult to make on-the-field adjustments on defense, look for the Aggies to get off to a fast start and keep on going. Alabama will do everything in its power to slow them down by running a lot of plays and keeping Kyle Allen off the field so that he can’t get into his rhythm. But if he does, with all those weapons at his disposal, the Aggies don’t need much time to score.
  1. Turnovers – The Aggies are plus-two in the turnover margin, with their defense causing fumbles, interceptions and mismatches. On the other hand, Alabama football has always been about wearing down their opponents by running the ball, controlling it, and not turning it over. They won’t be able to do that if the Aggies play up tempo; they’ll need to take some risks to score points. If Jake Coker takes some chances and tries to throw long, he can expect to see a lot of Garrett and Hall in his face. If he can throw screens and scramble for some yardage he could cough up the football. Or, he could fool the Aggie defense, which still doesn’t have the depth or experience of the Bama defense, especially in a game they HAVE to win.

If the Aggies can establish the tempo of the game, pick them to win. If the Tide can manage to play ball control and keep giving the ball to Derrick Henry and Kenyan Drake, they will be facing a rushing defense that’s still only 12th in the SEC. It’s a tough call, but it’s a game that Texas A&M can win. So, again, this is your chance to make your prediction and this time you too could be named the winner of the Texas Poker Store’s “Predict The Score” contest. So what do you think? Will the Aggies remain undefeated or will the Crimson Tide prevail?300-chip-set-big-slick

Saturday night at 6:30 will be the first time the new Kyle Field plays host to two ranked SEC teams, as #14 Texas A&M faces the toughest opponent they have seen so far — #21 Mississippi State. It will be a huge game, with Tra Carson seeing a lot of touches despite the fact that MSU’s red zone defense has been formidable in their first four games. If the Aggies stick to the run it opens up every weapon in their arsenal: including eventually popping a seam to run up the middle, play action passes, hitting some of the routes across the middle and getting a size-advantage match-up deep between Josh Reynolds and one of the MSU safeties. Kyle Allen can do it all, Christian Kirk can catch it all, and the Aggies can always mix it up even more by throwing in an occasional Kyler Murray package. The important thing for the Aggies is balance . . . keeping their offense balanced and throwing the Bulldogs off balance.

Kyle Allen vs Dak Prescott

On the other hand, MSU has Dak Prescott, arguably the best QB in the SEC, a powerful dual-threat senior who led the Dak-attack against the Aggies last year, accounting for 356 yards and five touchdowns in the MSU beatdown. Prescott loves to throw the ball, especially to 6’5” WR De’Runnya Wilson, which means he might just meet up with Mr. Garrett and Mr. Hall more often than he’d like to as they attempt to up their TFLs and sack numbers. Bottom line: the Aggies and the Bulldogs both have improved defenses, but we think the edge goes to Texas A&M. And they both have top tier quarterbacks, with the edge having to go to the seasoned Prescott but with Allen coming on strong. It should be a great football game, with enough explosive plays to put a lot of points on the board. We think more of those plays will be made by the Aggies; what do you think?

For those of you who agonized their way through the Texas A&M vs Arkansas game the way we did, you know that the outcome looked anything but certain. In fact, with the score being 21 to 13 in the 4th quarter and the Hogs seemingly able to maintain control of the ball for the majority of the game (Ags had only 16 plays in the first half) it was looking like a very disappointing outing for Sumlin’s young squad. But, as the coach said, they made big plays when they had to, were incredibly efficient in the short amount of time they had the rock on offense, and pulled out a thriller with one of several Allen to Kirk throws for a touchdown to win the game in overtime.

Aggies defeat RazorbacksIt was definitely hard to believe for the Arkansas squad, who lost in overtime to the Ags last year in Jerry World. And, it’s really hard to believe that our loyal customer, Marcell Liner, and follower of not just our blog but also the Fightin’ Texas A&M football team, has done it again. Last year he came the closest to predicting the final score of the Aggies vs Hogs game to win a set of Copag Poker Cards. This time, he didn’t just come closest, he nailed it by predicting the final score to be Aggies 28 – Hoggies 21. Congrats, Marcell!! Your Suited Speed Felt, Folding Poker Table Top, with carrying bag, is on its way.

Most of our followers know that around this time every year we ask our poker-loving fans to indulge us as we focus on our favorite team –the fightin’ Texas A&M football team—as they begin SEC play.

The fun begins this Saturday night at 6 P.M. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington between #14 Texas A&M and the Arkansas Razorbacks. Will it be the Aggies or the Hogs who win the Southwest Classic?

It’s not just that the Aggies are 3-0 and the Hogs are 1-2 coming into this contest that gets our blood pumping. It’s the revamped Texas A&M-John Chavis defense, led by DEs Myles Garrett and Dae Dae Hall leading the SEC with 15 sacks, the return from injury of some of our experienced linebackers, and the outstanding defensive line that’s been winning the battle in the trenches. And it’s the always explosive Aggie offense, with QB Kyle Allen and his uber-talented group of wide-receivers, including Christian Kirk, Speedy Noil, Josh Reynolds, Ricky Seals Jones and a host of others, along with a vastly improved run game that has mostly featured Tra Carson. And don’t ever forget about dual-threat Kyler Murray!

Of course, the Hogs are desperate for a win to keep their young season from going under. One huge thing they have going for them is their offensive line – the largest (in weight) O-line in both college and professional football. They would like nothing better than to maintain their record for allowing no sacks against the team with the most sacks in the conference. Not only that, but the Razorbacks are currently leading the SEC in passing yards with 916. Go figure.

So it’s time to launch our first round of “Predict the Score.” In case you’ve forgotten the rules:Deluxe Suited Speed Felt Folding Poker Table Top
