Well, we have a winner after the Aggies football team’s horrible showing against the University of Mississippi Rebels.

But first, just a word about the game. It wasn’t really about the fact that the Aggies lost to a far superior team. It wasn’t that they lost; it was how they lost that had 60,000 of the record-setting 110,633 leave before the beginning of the fourth quarter. The fire in the belly, the pumped up passion to at least play their hearts out just wasn’t there.

The worst thing that could have happened to Texas A&M was beating South Carolina so bad in the first game, causing everyone, including sportswriters, pundits, the Aggie faithful, and Kenny Hill to believe all the hype. So, now the Aggies are where most people thought they’d be before that hype that took us all the way to inflated egos and a number six national ranking just a couple of weeks ago. It’s time to rebuild, and Sumlin and staff have a giant rebuilding project on their hands.

The two bright lights in the game were Speedy Noil and Myles Garrett, by the way. Nice to know they’re part of the rebuilding.

And our winner was Gretchen Colford Farrar, who probably went with her gut and not her heart. By predicting Ole Miss 31 – Aggies 28. She has won the prize offered by the Texas Poker Store for her prediction.

We sure had a lot of losers this weekend! In what is now being called “Upset Saturday,” there were a lot of losers in college football,  a lot of losers in the rankings, a lot of losers in the SEC West. As Texas A&M went down to defeat against Mississippi State in Starkville, almost all of you who made a prediction of the final score of that game lost because you, like the pundits, picked the Aggies.

In fact, we had only two who chose MSU in our contest.

Unfortunately for Aggie fans, Dak Prescott and the Bulldogs were just about perfect, and the Ags not only had around 14 dropped balls and many errant passes, but were not impressive on defense or special teams either. There’s a lot to fix, and next Saturday the Ags face Ole Miss . . . the team with the biggest upset in the SEC, beating Alabama. So, Texas A&M dropped from 6th to 14th in the rankings, while MSU and Ole’ Miss jumped to a tie for 3rd. Among the other losers? Oregon, Oklahoma, USC, LSU. One thing is certain, there will be even more surprises before this season close

Here are a couple of thoughts to help you predict the score of the upcoming Texas A&M Aggies vs. the Mississippi State Bulldogs football game this Saturday in Starkville.

Kenny Hill has 27 completions of more than 20 yards, which means the Aggie offense has more than 400 passing yards per game. At least seven receivers have 100 receiving yards in five games. Those guys are hard to stop, too, averaging eight yards after the catch. And, MSU has allowed the most passing yards in the SEC per game. Sounds like Kenny Trill just has to throw the ball around a lot to win this one.

But not so fast. Dak Prescott, the 6’2”, 230 QB for the Bulldogs is pretty impressive, too. He’s a confident thrower with great accuracy and he’s the team’s second leading rusher . . . kinda like someone we know very well. They also make the pass look like a run, so much so that our safeties will have to be very careful not to over-commit. And they have numerous offensive weapons as well.

Keys: Ags need to protect Hill, strike fast and challenge the Bulldog’s secondary. Ags defense needs to put lots of pressure on Prescott. If both things happen, we predict the Aggies will win it.

After their awesome come-from-behind victory last week against the Razorbacks, the #6 Texas A&M football team travels to Starkville this Saturday, Oct. 4, to take on their next SEC opponent, the #12 Mississippi State Bulldogs, who have one of the best rushing defenses and sack attacks in the country. Not only are they probably the largest team the Ags will face all season (yes, even bigger than the Hogs) but, according to Kenny Hill, “they do so much stuff up front, it makes you think more. It’s going be tough just holding up protection.”

On the other hand, The Aggie’s offensive line is more than up to the challenge. And, if the O-line can hold off some of those big guys long enough for Hill to make some moves, there just may be a whole lot of passing yards from A&M’s powerful receivers, who will probably be able to overpower MSU’s secondary. Still, MSU has Dak Prescott, a complete quarterback who is off to a great start, beating LSU in Death Valley before last week’s bye. So, is it a high-scoring game? Too close to call?
