The 47th Annual World Series of Poker Main Event is down to only 251 players out of a total field of 6,737 participating players, each and every one of them reaching for the same thing, the 2016 WSOP Championship Bracelet. Cashing would be good, reaching the Final Table would be great, but nothing would compare to taking down that final table, outlasting the 6,737 players and walking away with the much-coveted Championship 2016 WSOP BraceletBracelet, not to mention the millions of dollars, eight million to be exact,  to stuff under their mattresses.

Brian Piccioli

As of day four and entering day five the current leader is Bryan Piccioli with a bag of 4,026,000 in chips.  But he will have lots of competition, all eager to take his entire stack. Here is the current breakdown of the top nine players entering day 5:

1. Bryan Piccioli – 4,026,000 – 2. Daniel Colman – 3,711,000 – 3. Thomas Miller – 3,684,000 – 4. Pierre Merlin – 3,396,000
5. Farhad Jamasi – 3,380,000 – 6. Goran Mandic – 3,216,000 – 7. Adi Abugazal – 3,180,000 – 8. Daniel Zack – 3,085,000
9. Melanie Weisner – 3,078,000

Maria Ho There are lots of other notables who are still in it and we all know that anything can happen in poker, so we wouldn’t count any of the 251 remaining players out quite yet. Good luck to each and every one of you. One of our favorites, Global Poker League’s Maria Ho, is definitely still in it and we are sending Lady Luck to stand by her side.

James Alexander and yours truly Pocket Bullets ParisWe’d like to give a shout out to our friends; Tina, Duane and James Alexander for proving that the family that plays together stays together; all three entered the Main Event this year and undoubtedly had a great time. Duane has cashed once before at the WSOP, his brother James has cashed eight times including six times this year, and their mom, Tina, is a poker pro in the making.

So as always, we are beginning to feel the excitement of another thrilling World Series of Poker. And as always, there is already a lot of mumbling going on about who will be there. We know that a few of our friends will, including the Alexander brothers from McAllen, Texas. (James Alexander made it all the way to 19th place at the main event and took home $285,408 last year). We will be cheering for both Duane and James from the rails.

Pocket Bullets Paris at WSOP 2013We’re sure that a lot of the older warriors, like Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Ivey, and maybe even one of the oldest warriors, Doyle “Texas Dolly” Brunson, will show up. Riess ‘The Beast” Ryan will most likely be there to try to make it two titles in a row. Who knows, it’s still to early to tell, but PokerNews has put out their annual “Watch Out For” list of rookies. They include some very serious newbie players that we would exercise caution with when sitting with them at the same poker tables. Here is PokerNews list of seven to watch at this year’s WSOP:

  1. Ole Schemion – 21, from Germany
  2. Dominik Panka – 22, from Poland
  3. Lukas Berglund – 21, from Sweden
  4. Jordan Westmorland – 24, from America
  5. Christoph Vogelsang – 28, from Germany
  6. Alen Bilic – 25, from Bosnia
  7. Mateusz Moolhuizen – 24, from The Netherlands

We will be keeping a close watch on these guys, and we will definitely be cheering for our friends, the Alexander brothers. We hope to see y’all there.

Day 1C started today at noon EST at  the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, for the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open 10 Million Dollar Guarantee Tournament. I agree with Mike Sexton’s praise and congratulatory post for SHRO having the balls to guarantee 10 million dollars. It certainly does take balls to do that, but I believe it takes just as much on the part of the players to lay down more than 5K  just to enter the mix. Of course, it’s all those players dropping 5K that gives the Seminole the mils to pay for their guarantee.

Our friends, the Alexander brothers, both showed they had the cajones to enter the mix and James is still in it. We were sad to hear that Duane busted out early, but we know he’s at his brother’s rail showing his full support. And we’re right there with him in spirit fully cheering James on as he battles against a field that currently is well over 800 entries. Amongst the notables that started out on Day 1C include Phil Ivey, Phil “The Unabomber” Laak, Mike Sexton and Dwight Pilgrim. The poker tables are buzzing and the poker chips are flying and we are calling on all the Poker Gods and Lady Luck to stand by Mr. Alexander’s rail.

James Alexander and Jim "Pocket Bullets" ParisPocket Bullets Paris

James Alexander called me this morning to let me know that he and his brother Duane were on their way to Florida to play at the Seminole Hard Rock Open for the $5,300 buy-in tournament that is due to start tomorrow, August 22nd, and run through the 29th at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. I felt like rushing to the airport and grabbing the next flight out so that I could be at their rails in full support. But, since I can’t really do that at this time, I thought that the next best thing was to cheer them on from afar and ask all our followers to send the Poker Gods to stand next to the Alexander boys at the poker tables through every hand.

This is no small tournament. The Seminole’s  director of poker, William Mason, made it clear  that this was a  $10 million guaranteed game which will award $1.7 million to the winner. The Flying Walrus - McAllen , Texas

James and Duane Alexander

These brothers sure know how to play and work together. They own The Flying Walrus in McAllen Texas, a hot sports bar, concert venue and restaurant. They are both pro poker players and both played at the 44th Annual World Series of Poker. James  finished in 19th place while his brother Duane and I, along with a host of others, cheered him on from the rails. Now they’re both going to play at the Seminole Hard Rock Open.

Hook 'Em Horns

So, although I can’t physically be at their rail this time, I’ll be there in spirit cheering them on. Go James! Go Duane!  Hook ‘Em Horns!!
