The Aggies had a much-needed “W “and so did Buddy, who won our Predict the Score contest with his prediction of 35-21. The Aggies had some impressive offensive stats, including rushing for more than 300 yards, the first time that’s happened since beating OU in the 2013 Cotton Bowl. And Kyler Murray had a beautiful debut as the Ags’ starting QB, staying poised, protecting the rock, hitting his receivers with some beautiful touch throws and rushing for more than 100 yards – as did Tra Carson; that’s two-100 yard rushers in a game!

Yes, we KNOW. Beating South Carolina is NOT the same as beating Bama or Ole Miss. And the defense still had trouble stopping the run. But Donovan Wilson had two picks, including one for a TD, the A&M safeties continued to impress, Dae Dae and Myles were their dominant selves and the defense has not stopped playing tough.

For those of you who are regular followers of our blog, you know that we’re huge football fans too, and often interrupt our poker coverage to bring you news about the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Football team or to write about the amazing Johnny Football. So, it’s no surprise that on this historic occasion, we pay tribute to Johnny Manziel, the first freshman ever to win the most prestigious award in college sports: the Heisman trophy. We forgot about poker last night and joined close to a thousand members of the 12th Man at The Association of Former Students Alumni Center to watch the Heisman Award show on their 26-foot screen. We are so incredibly proud of the entire football team, Coach Sumlin, Kingsbury, Snyder and the rest of the coaching staff, and of the best player in the nation —  Texas A&M quarterback, Johnny Manziel. We’ve been putting all our poker chips on Manziel and the Aggies all season and it’s the best bet we ever made!

It would have taken a much braver gambling man than I to bet on the Aggies last Saturday night after more than three quarters in Oxford. At that point,  they looked nothing like the team we’ve come to love; they turned the ball over six times, missed a bunch of tackles and were down to a fired-up Ole Miss team 27-17. But that’s what so great about this year’s Fightin Texas Aggies. They never gave up, hauled in some unbelievable catches, made some key interceptions when it counted most, and Johnny Football led his first-ever fourth-quarter comeback as an Aggie leading his team to an Aggies 30 – Ole Miss 27 victory.

That’s why, despite Louisiana Tech’s impressive 5-0 record, I’ve got to put all my poker chips on the Ags again this coming Saturday. This is a very different Aggie football team that’s building confidence with every game, and I’ll take those odds.
