Everyone who has been following this blog for a while knows that I’m a huge poker fan. I enjoy playing Texas Hold ‘Em every week and I get a thrill out of watching the professionals play — especially during the World Series of Poker. I was at the Rio in Vegas again this year, cheering on my favorites at the rail, and I stayed until it was down to the Final Nine. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out in November.

Texas A&M Aggies and Arizona State Sun DevilsBut for pure, gut-wrenching excitement, nothing gets the blood boiling like the start of football season. And in this house, that begins with Aggie football, as in the fightin’ Texas A&M football team taking the field for their first game of the season this Saturday night against the Arizona State Sun Devils. The game is being played at NRG Stadium in Houston, supposedly a neutral field, but the crowd will be overwhelmingly maroon.

Finally, after all the hype and the buzz and the interviews, spring football, SEC Media Days, fall camp and months of grueling conditioning and practice, it’s time to see what this team is all about. Will the new John Chavis-led defense have the wrecking crew mentality we’re hoping for, with Myles Garrett setting records for sacks and Brandon William’s move from running back to corner paying off big time? Will Kyle Allen pick up where he left off in the Liberty Bowl and drive the Aggie offense down the field with confidence. He certainly has a full house of talented wide receivers to throw the ball to. And what about the O-line, with Dave Christiensen calling the shots? We know he and Kevin Sumlin are planning for a more balanced attack, so we’re looking for a strong running game and some tough battles in the trenches.

The Sun Devils are coming off back-to-back 10-win seasons and are ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press pre-season poll. This won’t be a cake-walk; in fact some have the Aggies as underdogs.

Ship it.... But it’s Aggie football time, and as always, we’re betting on the maroon and white to start the season with a W. That will set up next Saturday’s opening night home game in the newly renovated, finest football stadium in the country. More about that to come. It just doesn’t get much better than winning at the tables last night and rooting for our Aggies tomorrow night.

In the meantime, keep watching our blog for giveaways and great prizes once SEC play begins.

It’s the first of January, 2015. Unbelievable. Almost everyone seems to agree that 2014 went by very quickly and most are also glad that it’s over. We’re ready for 2015, are you?

On the other hand, it was a pretty good year for the poker world, with the World Series of Poker winners taking home record prize money. It was also a good year for The Texas Poker Store, as interest in playing poker and poker-related supplies continues to grow. We have some big plans for the new year in terms of expanding our product line and offering y’all some amazing deals which we can’t wait to share with you. We will also be running some more contests for chances to win great prizes; we know everyone enjoys those.

Of course, it will be a long eight or nine months until the next Texas A&M football season, which most of you know is our other passion. It was an up and down year for the Aggies, and the first year we’ve ever had contest winners who bet against our favorite team. Fortunately, we ended the season with a victory in the Liberty Bowl against West Virginia and a tantalizing glimpse of what is to come in terms of our talented young players. Then, in a HUGE “get” for the team and the 12th Man, Kevin Sumlin managed to lure John Chavis away from LSU to be our new defensive coordinator. We’re talking Wrecking Crew potential, folks, so we’re all very excited.Texas Poker Store Tournament Package

So bring on 2015; we will get into some poker tournaments while we wait for football season to begin in August.

The Texas A&M Aggies football team had its ups and downs this season, and certainly aren’t playing in the bowl game they might have imagined when they came out of the gate blazing to beat South Carolina. But don’t doubt for a minute that they want to beat the West Virginia Mountaineers this Monday in the AZO Liberty Bowl. In fact, they really need this win to go into the off-season on a high note. Of course, it means a lot to the seniors like Malcome Kennedy and DeShazor Everett, who will be playing their last game for the maroon and white. And, those seniors have the rare opportunity to win four straight bowl games in a row. But most importantly, as Kevin Sumlin likes to point out, the bowl game is really the first step of the next season, and if that’s the case then all Aggie fans will have their eyes on their talented youngsters: Kyle Allen, Speedy Noil, Ricky Seals-Jones and Myles Garrett.bowlanza

This is going to be a close game. The Aggie offense will have to protect the quarterback, block, establish a running game and catch (and hold onto) the passes thrown by an ever-improving Kyle Allen. And the defense will have to put tremendous pressure on the WVU quarterback, Skyler Howard, to stop him from throwing accurately to his number one receiver, All-American Kevin White. It’s not going to be easy because White is a threat similar to Amari Cooper, who the Aggie D couldn’t stop from gaining 140 yards and two touchdowns in their brutal defeat against Alabama. But this isn’t ‘Bama . . . and the Mountaineers, although good, are good for the Big 12 and hopefully not so good against the SEC.TPS Poker Chips

So we’re putting our poker chips on the Aggies to begin next season by getting the “W” in Memphis. Time to put away the poker table and focus on football.

In a game that many Aggie fans are probably dreading, the Texas A&M football team travels to Jordan-Hare Stadium to face the #3 Auburn Tigers.  Last week, the Tigers knocked off Ole Miss and are 4-1 in the SEC. The Aggies, on the other hand, coming off a bye week, eeked out an unimpressive win against Louisiana-Monroe, 21-16. It was a W, though, which felt good after a devastating 59-0 beat down by Alabama two weeks before, and bad losses to Mississippi State and Ole Miss in the two prior weeks, making the Ags 3-2 in the SEC.

The Aggies seem to have lost their mojo and have been unraveling before our eyes. It’s not just one problem, either. It’s the flat, predictable offense that doesn’t in any way resemble the up-tempo offenses of Coach Kevin Sumlin or of the Aggies of 2012 and 2013. It’s the bad judgment of Kenny Hill and the inexperience of Kyle Allen. It’s the defense, especially in the secondary. But mostly it’s the toughness, the swag, the belief in themselves and each other that’s missing. So what will it take to turn it around? And does our favorite team have a chance, however slim, of beating Auburn?

300 Poker Chip Set A betting man (or woman) would say absolutely not. So, if you have any sense, you’ll predict a final score that gives Auburn a huge win over the Aggies. But that’s why sports are awesome; miracles can happen. A spark could ignite the fierce competitiveness of the Aggies and it could happen this Saturday. A risk-taker might just go with the Aggies. Be the first to predict the final score of the game, without going over, and you’ll win this 300 Poker Chip Set with an Aluminum Case, 2 decks of playing cards and a poker button set.
