We haven’t kept the fact that we’re fans of the Texas A&M football team a secret, but after last night’s 26-10 loss to the Tigers, even die-hard fans like us know that it’s another “wait til next year”. Our defense, although much-improved from last year, has yet to mature into an SEC defense. The Auburn coaching staff came up with the perfect game plan against our “D,” which was to consistently gash us with the run, 311 yards worth; and virtually eliminate our fearsome pass rush, which recorded zero sacks. Our offense was able to move the ball pretty well up and down the field with Kyler Murray at the helm, but that same Kyler Murray who performed so flawlessly against South Carolina turned back into a freshman quarterback again, throwing three picks, including two into the end zone to end our scoring drives.

So, yesterday’s SEC Game was a disappointing loss for the Aggies. Unfortunately we can’t announce a winner of our “Predict the Score” contest for this one as the only players that selected Auburn predicted scores that went over the final score.

It’s a good thing we’re poker fans and can now look forward to the Final Table of 2015 World Series Of Poker, beginning today at 5:00 p.m. PST on the stage in the Penn and Teller Theater at the Rio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. This year is breaking records even before the November Nine are dealt cards. This year the eldest player ever to make the November Nine, Pierre Neuville is 72 years old; that’s 15 years older than the previous oldest November Niner (Steve Gee was 57 in 2012).

Tuesday night, November 10th,  the newest WSOP Main Event champion will be crowned. Whoever that may be will take home a WSOP gold bracelet, over $7.6 million dollars, and a well-deserved place in poker history.

Max Steinberg and me at the 2015 WSOPWho do you favor? Personally,  I would have to place my poker chips on Max Steinberg even though the odds are in favor of the current chip leader,  Joe McKeehen. After  meeting  Steinberg and following the brief talk I had with him, I believe he is a fearless, extremely confident and competent player that could easily outplay McKeehen. Of course, we are talking poker and as we all know, anything can happen at the poker tables.

In their final SEC home game, the Texas A&M Aggies will take on the Auburn Tigers. It’s expected to be a dogfight, regardless of what the line says. The game is meaningful for both teams, which means that we consider it our responsibility to tell you why before we invite you to play “Predict the Score.”

Auburn has not lived up to its promise, especially considering that their new defensive coordinator is Will Muschamp. They haven’t been an attacking, aggressive unit, and they’ve been allowing opposing teams to convert almost half of their 3rd down chances. Their offense has not shown that they can rush for a lot of yardage, either. But if there was ever a time to revive their running game, it would seem like playing against the Aggie D would be the answer to their prayers. In the last four games, the Texas A&M defense has allowed 230 or more rushing yards; that should be an invitation to pound the rock for Auburn.

On the other hand, the Aggie defense has been tough on passers, rushing and blitzing almost at will, and they have been extremely stingy with third downs, allowing opposing teams to convert a mere 32% of the time.

The bottom line is that if the Tigers commit to running the football, they have a shot at breaking their two-game losing streak and giving themselves a chance to go bowling. So they really need to win this one badly. The question is, can Kyler Murray, with his prodigious play-making skills, and the rest of the Aggie offense pile up enough running and receiving yardage to make it another Aggie win? Although Texas A&M is already bowl-eligible, a win could see them heading toward a 10-3 season. Not bad considering how Aggie fans were feeling a couple of weeks ago.

The Aggies had a much-needed “W “and so did Buddy, who won our Predict the Score contest with his prediction of 35-21. The Aggies had some impressive offensive stats, including rushing for more than 300 yards, the first time that’s happened since beating OU in the 2013 Cotton Bowl. And Kyler Murray had a beautiful debut as the Ags’ starting QB, staying poised, protecting the rock, hitting his receivers with some beautiful touch throws and rushing for more than 100 yards – as did Tra Carson; that’s two-100 yard rushers in a game!

Yes, we KNOW. Beating South Carolina is NOT the same as beating Bama or Ole Miss. And the defense still had trouble stopping the run. But Donovan Wilson had two picks, including one for a TD, the A&M safeties continued to impress, Dae Dae and Myles were their dominant selves and the defense has not stopped playing tough.

There’s only a couple of things we know for sure going into the Texas A&M vs. South Carolina football game this Saturday. The first is that all eyes will be on the quarterback, whoever he is. After the abysmal showing by Kyle Allen (and the entire offense) against Ole Miss last week, Coach Kevin Sumlin announced that Kyle Allen, Kyler Murray and Jake Hubenak, his three scholarship QBs, would be competing for the start against the Gamecocks. Whoever gets the nod will be revealed on Friday.

Texas A&M vs South Carolina Gamecocks

The second thing we know is that the forecast is for wet and rainy conditions, which means the Aggie offense will be simplified, which also means we might not learn as much as we’d like about changes in the Aggie offense. We also might, or might not learn as much about the Aggies as we’d like, since playing South Carolina is not the same as playing Ole Miss or Alabama. This was supposedly an easy win back when everything was coming up roses. In other words, if we win it, it still doesn’t tell us that much. On the other hand, if the Ags struggle or lose, we’ll know all we need to know.
