The excitement /anxiety at the Texas Poker Store (and in our house) is mounting as we get closer and closer to the start of the Texas A&M football season. The Aggies kick it off tomorrow night at 5 p.m. (CST), on the SEC Network, against #9 South Carolina in Columbia. And, according to Las Vegas, the Gamecocks are 10 ½ point favorites!

Set of Copag Poker cardsIf we were betting with cash, we’d take the points and go with the Aggies. Instead, we’re going to launch our annual “Predict the Score” contest that we hold for all conference games. Whoever comes the closest to predicting the final score will win a professional set of Copag Peek-Index Poker Cards including a durable, solid carrying case. If there’s a tie, whoever made the correct prediction first is the winner, so you don’t have much time to fool around.

In our opinion, most of the pundits seem to be too focused on who we lost (mainly Manziel, Mike Evans and Jake Matthews) as well as the memory of how awful our defense was last year. We prefer to think positively. Not only do we think our offense is loaded with major weapons at WR, such as Ricky Seals-Jones, Speedy Noils, Cam Clear, Malcom Kennedy and more, but we have running backs with talent and experience and an O-Line that should match up well against any opponent. Unfortunately, this is a very tough match-up for the first game of the season, especially playing in a hostile environment. Same thing for the defense. We are confident that improvements have been made at every position, but will it all come together in the first game?

What do you think? Will the Aggies surprise everyone and catapult themselves into a top ten team after their first road game? Or will the pundits be right, with the Ags taking a two-score beating as predicted? Predict the score now for your chance to be the first Texas Poker Store winner of the 2014-15 football season!

This is an historic day in Aggieland for fans of the Texas A&M football team. It’s the last home game in what will forevermore be known as the “old Kyle Field.” As soon as the game ends, the grass is scheduled to be removed from the field and the real construction will begin on the $450 million stadium – what is being touted as the most ambitious stadium renovation and expansion in all of college football. It is also, with 99 percent certainty, the last opportunity to see the phenomenal Johnny Manziel play at home, as well as the last time for WR sensation Mike Evans and the incomparable Jake Matthews . . . all of whom will next be seen playing for the NFL . It’s a bittersweet day; the faithful so filled with gratitude at being part of this remarkable two years and sad to see it coming to an end.

It’s also a game that could be a good predictor of how the final two games of the season will play out. Will the Aggie defense continue to show the improvement that encouraged Aggie fans against their last two opponents? Or, when faced with a far better MSU team, will the improvements prove to be more perception than reality? We’re hoping that the D continues to fly to the ball, cover their gaps, complete their tackles, rush the passer and create some mayhem for the Bulldog’s offense. We’re hoping for more turnovers and interceptions. And, we’re hoping that JFF and his explosive offense go out with a bang at Kyle Field.

MSU vs Texas A&MWe have recorded all your predictions and wish y’all the best of luck. We’re right there with most of you; we’ve put away the poker tables for the day and we’re on our way to join the 12th Man and root for our Fighting Texas A&M Aggies to BTHOmsu!

It’s the Bulldogs of Mississippi State against the Aggies of Texas A&M and all eyes will be riveted on JFF and Mike Evans as they play what is almost definitely their last game together on Kyle Field. Of course, all eyes will also be on the Aggie defense, as we learn whether their perceived improvement against two bad teams (well, one bad and one really bad team) holds up against a much better team.Johnny Football Manziel

Will Claiborne continue to get stronger at linebacker? Will Stansbury add to his three sacks? How about Matthews getting another interception? The Aggies will absolutely need the kind of speed, intense pressure, tackling and forced turnovers they showed in their last two games against MSU, who have a mobile sophomore quarterback in Dak Prescott and rank 41st in the nation in total offense. And will our offense get off to its ( normal) fast start and then keep its foot on the throats of the Bulldogs? We’re betting all our poker chips on it.

It’s time to make your predictions for the last game of the season at Kyle Field . . . and the last time Kyle Field will look the same before the real construction and expansion begins. Whoever is first to come closest to predicting the final score (without going over) will win a Texas A & M Aggies mirror or a Mississippi State Bulldogs mirror or any of our collegiate mirrors in stock.

Heading into the Saturday game at Kyle Field ( on CBS at 2:30 CST) it’s best to forget about last year’s Aggie rout of the Tigers and remember what Coach Sumlin said when asked about the difference between last year’s Auburn team and this year’s.

“They’re 5-1,” Sumlin said. “They’re ranked 24th in the country. They’re very different from the team we played last year.”

So, what does Texas A&M have to look out for? The running game, led by Tre Mason against an Aggie D that’s been gashed all year against the run. The Tigers also have a good quarterback in Nick Marshall who can run and pass, possibly creating some problems for our secondary. And a fired up team playing under an excellent new coach named Gus Malzahn.

And what does Auburn have to look out for? Obviously, like every other team, they have to try (somehow) to contain Johnny Manziel, a feat becoming more challenging with every week. Their defense has to contend with our powerful running game, led by Ben Malena, Trey Williams and Manziel, and our receivers . . .. Mike Evans, Malcolme Kennedy, Sabian Holmes, Derel Walker . . . and a whole bunch of others waiting in the wings. And, of course, one of the biggest stars from last week: Travis Labhart!

So will the Aggie defense make the big plays when they need to like they did against Ole Miss? Will the Aggie offense continue to score at will? Or is Auburn ready for a huge win? As always, we’re picking the Ags to win this one, although we think it may be close.A set of Copag Poker Sized Cards
