Years ago we wrote about the movie; “The Grand,” an improvisational comedy, which takes a stab at the often hilarious look at what happens at the, sometimes crazed, high stakes poker tables.
So, if you love movies, comedy, and poker then this movie will have you in stitches. It may not help you with your poker skills but you may recognize some of this behavior exhibited by way too many players from Vegas to Macau and anywhere poker is played.
“The Grand” stars Woody Harrelson along with Jason Alexander, Ray Romano, Werner Herzog, Cheryl Hines, David Cross, Dennis Ferrina, Richard Kind, Gabe Kaplan, and Chris Parnell. And, naturally any poker movie should include lots of cameos from real poker stars and poker-celebrities like Doyle Brunson, Antonio Esfandiari, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Laak, Daniel Negreanu and many more.
This is one movie where you may see anything from a giant pair of sunglasses to some jumbo playing cards and pass for cool. We certainly have seen some of these shenanigans at almost every tournament we have played.
For any of you who have played poker non-stop through the course of the night and into the wee hours of the morning, this news flash from our favorite poker news source, “PokerNews” itself, should bring a smile unto your weary, tired, sleepy grinder brains.
Chad Holloway, a 2013 World Series of Poker Bracelet winner, who also happens to be the Managing Editor of PokerNews, has taken his passion for poker, his passion for zombies and his passion for comic books and created the ultimate Zombie Poker Adventure: The World Series of Zombies (WSOZ). In this bizarre world of Holloway’s, he features some of poker’s greatest names including Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth, Vanessa Selbst, Antonio Esfandiari, Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, and Phil Laak.
Personally, I think this is bound to become a classic collectors’ item and I will be picking up our copy at the Rio in Vegas very soon. In the meantime, for all the details just go to the PokerNews website and check it out for yourselves.
Next time you’re grinding at the tables all night remember; there are Poker Zombies walking amongst you.
Continuing with interesting word play related to poker, I’m sure you have all heard of anagrams. It’s simple. You take a word or a sentence, rearrange the letters, and form new words or sentences. You’ll be fascinated to know that many of the new word/words mean something similar—and this is particularly true with names. The best possible solutions to name anagrams reveal an eerily close-to perfect depiction of the person. Again, the mind might choose to see what it wants, nevertheless, this is one of nature’s inexplicable gimmicks. Let’s start with our own Texas Poker Store family members, and continue with celebrity poker professionals. I thoroughly enjoyed this exercise, and I hope you do too!
I Rip Jams
How true! Our Chief Dealer, who previously produced the great Buddy Miles, loves Rock ‘N Roll jams.
Rival Up Man
I agree. Paul’s a good Heads Up player. I wouldn’t want to rival up with him heads up.
Bingo! Brave in poker, inutile in everything else.
Huh? The Limp II
I’ll take it. He is a tight player. No wonder he won so many tournaments. A master of pot control.
Unreal! Daniel walks the walk, and talks the talk too. Anyone who knows The Kid, knows that he is full of adrenalin.
Age is no barrier for this poker maestro, who is still busy traveling the world playing poker.
If Insane Adoration
If you watch High Stakes Poker, then you know The Magician is constantly thankful and appreciative of all poker players at his table.
A prototype among the best.
Indeed! Hyper aggressive is an understatement.
A Guru of poker with the stature of a thin, frail, little ant who always ended up with the biggest stack of poker chips.
Vast ‘n’ Baseless
Absolutely. Her style is relentless and aggressive.
Phil Laak is playing his usual style at Party Poker’s “The Big Game” and is currently leading with 26,125 Euros up. Game is about 4 hours into a 48 hour game so it is very early still, but what is your guess for who will take this one? You can watch all the action live at PokerNews.com. Lots of players will jump in as the game continues and some of them are sure to make this poker table very exciting to watch.
