Seven days into the 46th Annual WSOP and already it has been filled with plenty of exciting matches, record breaking numbers, and, as always, some controversy.
We already told you about the very first 2015 gold bracelet that was grabbed up by Brandon Barnette in Event#1: $565.00 Casino Employees No-Limit Hold’em. Barnette took home, not only the first bracelet of this year’s WSOP, but also his first bracelet ever plus a $75,704 payday with a sweet boat of . Congrats Brandon.
Michael Wang took Event #2: $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em also takes his first World Series of Poker gold bracelet and bagged $466,120 of the prize money.
Event #3: $1,500 Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better was championed by Robert Mizrachi earning $255,022 and his third gold bracelet.
Event #4: $3,000 No-Limit Hold’em Shootout is scooped by Nick Petrangelo, 28-Year-Old Poker Pro who finally takes home his first gold bracelet, a sweet, well-earned check for $201,812 and crosses the $1 million mark for the year in tournament winnings.
And now we come to the controversy of the brand new, record-breaking Event #5: THE COLOSSUS $565 No-Limit Hold’em. The controversy stems from the pay-out structure. There are a total of 22,374 entries with a total prize pool of $11,187,000. The pay-out of $638,880 for the winner is just under 6% of the overall take. I don’t understand why anyone would ever complain about investing $565.00 and get back more than a thousand times their investment in less than a week, and all while enjoying playing at the WSOP poker tables. Currently as of today June 2nd, it is down to 33 players. Raymond Henson is the current chip leader with 7,420,000 chips in play.
Last but not least for now, is our report from the floor at the Rio on Event #6: $1,000 Hyper Hold’em. An ecstatic 26-year-old John Reading mastered over a field of 1,436 hyper players and in just two days took away $252,068 in prize money along with his very first gold bracelet
…. And as the excitement continues we will be telling you all about it as reported to us by our trusted friends at the Rio.
