We know, now that the college football season is heading into week three, that some of our longtime followers are waiting for us to begin our notoriously biased series focused on our favorite team, the Texas A&M football team.   You’re probably expecting our well-known “predict-the-winner” contests. Maybe it’s because you’re craving one of our very cool prizes. Maybe it’s because, like us, you’re a rabid Aggie football fan. Or, maybe you’re all just poker player who like to bet on things.

Well, in case you forgot, we only play “predict-the-winner” for SEC games! In other words, we still have one more non-conference game to play –against Nevada — before the real fun begins. (Unless you consider 18 consecutive non-conference wins, the longest active streak in the nation, to be fun!) Although we loved watching the Aggies win convincingly over Arizona State and Ball State, and could not be more pumped about our revitalized “Chavis” defense as well as some of our exciting, and serious contenders for super-stardom, we know it doesn’t get real until we play our SEC opponents.

So to get you all ready for SEC football, the following are some SEC-West highlights:

The Aggies first SEC battle will be against Arkansas on Sept. 26th. The Razorbacks suffered an embarrassing loss against Toledo last week and have to face Texas Tech before playing the Aggies. Let’s just say that doesn’t look good for the Hogs.

The Tide will play Ole Miss this week and will be counting on their defense to stop the highly explosive offense from Mississippi. And Auburn, who looked nothing like they were supposed to look in their narrow win against Jacksonville State, have a scary SEC contest against LSU this week.

So to sum it up, at least for the SEC West, the Aggies will continue to impress and let guys from deep in the depth charts play a lot of minutes to get them ready for conference play. And the other teams will be figuring things out, which they better do quickly before the Ags run the table.

The Lumen Poker TableIn the mean time we’ll be working on our newly re-designed Texas Poker Store website that should be ready for re-launch by end of next week. Until then, shuffle your chips and we’ll see you at the tables.

After their awesome come-from-behind victory last week against the Razorbacks, the #6 Texas A&M football team travels to Starkville this Saturday, Oct. 4, to take on their next SEC opponent, the #12 Mississippi State Bulldogs, who have one of the best rushing defenses and sack attacks in the country. Not only are they probably the largest team the Ags will face all season (yes, even bigger than the Hogs) but, according to Kenny Hill, “they do so much stuff up front, it makes you think more. It’s going be tough just holding up protection.”

On the other hand, The Aggie’s offensive line is more than up to the challenge. And, if the O-line can hold off some of those big guys long enough for Hill to make some moves, there just may be a whole lot of passing yards from A&M’s powerful receivers, who will probably be able to overpower MSU’s secondary. Still, MSU has Dak Prescott, a complete quarterback who is off to a great start, beating LSU in Death Valley before last week’s bye. So, is it a high-scoring game? Too close to call?

Many of you know that we run “Predict The Winners” contests, from predicting the outcome of  Texas A&M football games, to predicting the final score of the Superbowl, to predicting the World Series of Poker Champion. Over the last couple of months we’ve had five winners and two of them have won twice in separate contests. Because we have been extremely busy with the continued maintenance and expansion of the Texas Poker Store, it has been slow coming, but the following is a list of our latest winners:

11-9 Lynn P – A&M vs MSU …..  10-31- Matt A – World Series of Poker
10-27 Lynn P – A&M vs Vanderbilt …..  10-21 Frankie S – A&M vs Auburn
10-14 Brian A – A&M vs Ole Miss ….. 9-29 Ryan G – A&M vs Arkansas
9-10 Frankie S – A&M vs Alabama

Congratulations to each and every one of you and, of course, a great big thanks for participating in all our contests.

Johnny Football raised the fear level of all Razorbacks when he came out blasting with two TD passes to Mike Evans in the first half. From there on the Fighting Texas A&M Aggies certainly played differently than what y’all may have been expecting, but it was a well plotted, intentional, carefully designed ground game, dependent on our ace running backs and the awesome Maroon Goons that proved too much for the Arkansas D to cope with, proving that the Aggies are a multidimensional offense that can adapt to whatever the circumstances might demand. Of course, it ended in an Aggie win of 45 – 33 over the now dejected and deflated Arkansas Razorbacks.

Texas A&M University Officially Licensed Neon ClockAnd we have a winner, too. English teacher and swim coach at A & M Consolidated High School, Ryan Goodwyn, from College Station, Texas came closest first to predicting the final score, without going over, and wins a beautiful Texas A&M Neon Wall Clock to hang in the music room of their new home. Of course, if he wishes he can trade that prize in for poker chips or anything else of equal or lesser value from the Texas Poker Store. Congratulations, Coach Ry!
