Star Trek never lets you down and Klingons never bluff. In this episode we see Lt. Commander Data, Commander -“Number One”-William Riker, Lt. Commander Worf, Commander Doctor Katherine Pulaski and Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge entrenched in a friendly game of draw poker that Lieutenant Worf dominates with a Full House of Aces over Queens. Data deals next and calls a deep space variant of 7 Card Stud combined with “Chase the Queen” and “Low Chicago”. Data once again shows his deft skills in shuffling and dealing and reminds us of why some of us need an automatic card shuffler.

Continuing with our Star Trek Poker Series, here’s another of our favorite clips. This scene features Lt. Commander Data, Commander William Thomas Riker, Lt. Commander Worf, and Commander Dr. Beverly Crusher. Scene opens with Data doing some fancy shuffling of the poker playing cards and dealing a round of 5 card stud. After a few betting rounds it comes down to Riker and Dr. Crusher. Riker pushes in with a raise and Crusher reads his bluff like a book, then tells him about his habit of raising his eyebrow when he bluffs.
Maybe she was just born to read tells. Or, she might have learned how to read them from studying one of the many how-to books. Books like the very popular “Doyle Brunson’s Systems I and II”, and lots of others including texas hold em poker books which I’m sure she found in the Ship’s library.
